Role Overview
The Field Application Scientist (FAS) plays a critical role in Pion’s commercial and customer success strategy. This position serves as a technical authority and trusted partner to customers, supporting both pre-sales and post-sales activities through training, demonstrations, application support and analytical services. The FAS works closely with Sales, Service, Product and Operations teams to ensure successful customer adoption, effective use of Pion technologies and delivery of meaningful scientific value. This role requires strong technical competence, excellent communication skills and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, customer facing environment with a high degree of accountability.
Essential Functions
Customer Training, Demonstrations & Scientific Engagement
- Conduct onsite and remote instrument and application training sessions for customers
- Deliver product demonstrations and present Pion technologies at customer sites, seminars and conferences
- Support customers with experimental design, method optimization and application best practices
- Act as a scientific ambassador for Pion, building credibility and trust with technical stakeholders
Pre-Sales & Post-Sales Support
- Partner with Sales by providing technical expertise throughout the sales cycle
- Support opportunity qualification, demos and technical discussions to enable successful deal execution
- Provide post-sales support including troubleshooting, issue resolution, and user guidance
Analytical Services & Laboratory Support
- Execute analytical service projects, including experimental work on customer samples
- Support assay development, experimental execution and data interpretation
- Participate in maintaining Pion’s analytical laboratories and equipment
Operational Excellence & Rigor
- Operate with discipline in planning, documentation and follow-through
- Balance multiple priorities while meeting customer and internal deadlines
- Provide clear feedback to Product, Sales and Leadership teams based on customer experience
- Contribute to continuous improvement of application processes, training materials, and workflows
Safety & Compliance
- Contribute to the safe operation of Pion Analytical laboratories
- Follow established safety protocols and quality standards at all times

Job Requirements
Travel
- This position is based in Billerica, MA
- Requires up to 50% domestic and international travel
- Travel may include customer training, instrument demonstrations, service support and attendance at conferences or training events
- Ability to travel up to 50%
- Valid driver’s license and passport
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
Education & Experience - Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a life science discipline (Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field)
- 2–5 years of relevant industry experience
- Understanding of analytical instrumentation (e.g., UV-Vis, HPLC)
- Experience with analytical assay development, experimental design and statistical analysis (e.g., precision, bias, linearity)
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
Preferred
- Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline
- Experience with dissolution testing and/or drug formulation
- Prior customer-facing or field-based experience supporting scientific instrumentation
