Electrical Engineer
This position will be a key member of a small engineering team manufacturing pharmaceutical laboratory test equipment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the cutting-edge science our equipment enables. We are looking for a versatile electrical engineer to work on a small team in a startup-like atmosphere. The candidate should be highly skilled in electrical engineering for both analog measurements as well as industrial controls. Pion has a broad portfolio spanning laboratory equipment taking sensitive optical and electrochemical measurements to electromechanical robotic liquid handling to industrial machinery utilizing PLC’s and hydraulic controls.
Essential Functions
- Strong organization and documentation skills. An understanding that high quality documentation is critical for the success of our organization is a must.
- Be responsible for the electrical systems on our products from design and purchasing until the end of life for the product.
- Support the purchasing department with ordering custom PCB’s by improving documentation and being a resource for vendor questions.
- Manage the lifecycle of custom PCB’s by finding alternate components and alerting management when a revision will be necessary.
- Develop functional tests for QC of incoming boards.
- Document the steps for programming and configuring boards.
- Design and document cabling and wire harnesses.
- Train manufacturing technicians on best practices in electrical assembly.
- Assist manufacturing and field service in diagnosing electrical faults.
- Design electrical cabinets that are compliant with NFPA 79 and UL 61010.
- Work with product development to assist in developing requirements for analog measurements and incorporating DFM practices into new designs.
- Design test methods for verification of the finished product capabilities.
- Participate certifying product compliance with relevant standards.
- Provide technical advice and expertise to colleagues in the UK and US.

- Interpreting electrical schematics and modeling system dynamics.
- Experience with one or more EDA software package (KiCad, Altium, Diptrace, etc.)
- Experience with ladder logic (Visilogic) is helpful.
Job Requirements
- Ability to travel occasionally.

Travel
This position is based in our Billerica office and occasional travel for project related activities.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s or PhD in electrical engineering (or a related, relevant discipline).
- 1 or more years experience with manufacturing of scientific, medical or industrial equipment.
- Experience with design and development of analog measurement systems.
- Successful completion of undergraduate-level chemistry coursework is desirable.
- Hands-on electromechanical assembly skills (soldering, mechanical assembly, etc.).
